Chicken Abuse

I think we sang this for an hour this morning:

I had a little chicken,

that wouldn’t lay an egg.

So I ran hot water up and down his leg.

I ran hot water up and down his leg.

The darn old chicken laid a boiled egg.

A boiled egg, a boiled egg,

The darn old chicken laid a boiled egg.

Other versions

Crayon – Coloured egg

Beater – Scrambled egg

Hot oil – Fried egg

Bunny – Easter egg

Coco bean – Chocolate egg

And brand new:

Hunter – Poached egg

  1. Very similar to our version (to the tune of Turkey in the Straw):

I had a little chickie and she wouldn’t lay an egg
So I poured hot water up and down her leg
Oh the little chickie cried and the little chickie begged
The gosh darned chickie layed a hard boiled egg!

(Then we sang the turkey in the straw chorus) We also had a verse where we drove a school bus (a busted egg. I don’t remember any of the others.

    • You can add these verses

Walked my dog up & down her legs—— “pooched egg”
Took red paint and painted her legs——“deviled egg”
Drove a bus up and down her legs——-“Busted egg”
Took a whip and whipped her legs——-“Beaten egg”

  2. That is so funny!

I had a different version as a kid – though it isn’t to a known tune – it has its own. It is terribly hillarious, it goes like this:

“I had a chicken that laid no eggs (repeated a time or two)
My wife said ‘Honey, it isn’t funny to have a chicken that lays no eggs”

One day a rooster came into our yard, and caught the chicken right off her gaurd. We’re having eggs now, just like we usta, ever since that rooster came into our yard.”

So the funny part comes in on the following verses, all of the words are the same except:

Cow comes into the yard = eggnog

    Gumball machinge = chicklets

    feller = egg heads

I think there were others, but those were the ones that made me laugh the hardest.

  3. ours went…

oh, i had a little chickie
and she wouldn’t lay an egg
so i ran hot water up and down her leg
and the little chickie hollered and the little chickie screamed
and the poor little chickie laid a hard-boiled egg!

and it wasn’t until the ice-cream truck came around this summer playing that tune when i realized that the words i remember going along with it are HORRIBLE. “poor little chickie” indeed! 😦
