Once Upon a Mattress

August 28, 2009 · 6 Comments

Once upon a time there were three boys. A big boy, a middle boy and a not so wee baby boy. The boys were happy and mostly got along but their world was about to change and they don’t seem to like change.

The not so wee baby boy slept in a playpen since the day he was born and now being two sun cycles old he was out growing his “bed”.

The Middle boy slept on a the bottom of a shiny silver bunk bed. He loved this bunk because he could make forts and hide flashlights. He could stay up very late without getting in trouble.

The big boy was a top dweller and desperately wanted his own room with his own bed. Alas his parent could not accommodate his request, for the extra rooms were already occupied.

One day their wicked and selfish mother realized she wasn’t sleeping at night because the not so wee baby boy needed a new place to sleep. So out of her own need for restful zzzzs she went in pursuit of a mattress and a box spring.

The big boy seeing this as an opportunity to further his cause, restated his request with a slight modification. He wanted the new bed. After much discussion a bargain was struck. Only upon excellent condition of the mattress, would he be able to have a new bed. Chances were very low as she was purchasing used goods.

The day of the exchange came and the playpen was packed away and the room organized for the arrival of said mattress. The goods were picked up and in excellent condition. The Big boy won…or did he?

Bed made, pajamas on, the boys made ready to rest. Then suddenly…. Tears! The not so wee baby wished to sleep where is former bed was and yet was not used to wide open spaces. The middle boy, reveling in his new found grown-up-ness earlier was now lamenting the loss of, and I quote, “The only bed I have ever known.” The oldest boy was sad as he was not in his new bed enjoying the luxury of a well maintained mattress. Oh the horror.

The selfish mother needing a good nights rest struck another deal. Tonight everyone will sleep where they are, and on the morrow all will change and all will like it.

And they did. Sort of.

The End

24=2

Tweedle 3 is 2. The day did not pass without a celebration of sorts. There were balloons (all be it the wrong age ones) there was a present and a cake. Unfortunately for this little Tweedle his day falls at one of the busiest times of the year for me. Even though I tried a month in advance to plan what to do for my little guy, we ended up playing it by ear.

BoatsThis year we went to Calaway Park and only went on rides my babe could go on. Then we hit the Dairy Queen for a lunch and cake.
Cars Cake of Course
There is something to be said for keeping it simple. I know the Tweedle didn’t mind. He just loved us singing happy birthday over and over again. He still plays with his Lightning McQueen Shake and Go car which was half the price at a well know department store, all the time. Sometimes at night we have to pry it from his tiny fingers before he goes to bed.

Of course it wasn’t a party without balloons and rip roaring game of balloon volleyball (or something like unto it). Did you know you can play baseball with a balloon, and tennis. All you need is a hanger someone who is willing, a balloon or several, and at least an hour. Thats right folks my little Tweedle will focus about an hour on hitting balloons. Looks like nothing has changed much in that department over the last year.

Earth Sandwich

April 22, 2009 · 2 Comments

When Tweedle D was the age of Tweedle 3 he was in the hospital for observation. He was there for about 5 days. They wanted to see how he ate, measure his food and run a whole gamut of tests for he was classified as Failure to Thrive or in other words losing weight. I stayed with Tweedle D pretty much the whole time. I slept at the hospital, ate at the hospital, played at the hospital for I had nothing much else to do. Mr. Wonderful would come in the mornings sometimes and after work, bring me some dinner. When he left for the night our little family would have a family prayer and then a group hug. It started out being called “Group Hug”, but then as the days progressed it evolved in to a “Tweedle D sandwich” (parents on the outside, kid in the middle)

When Tweedle E was old enough he got his own sandwich and again with Tweedle 3.

This morning as the boys were getting ready to go, we hugged each other and said “Earth Sandwich.”

Unfortunately, that was all we did today for Earth Day. It snowed and the plans to spend an hour removing garbage got garbaged. Next year I plan to make these, if I can figure out how to make them more globe-like. Just so you don’t think I am lame, that will also be on top of the garbage cleaning.
Have you hugged your Earth today?

Tub Time

March 11, 2009 · 2 Comments

Tweedle 3 is going through a new stage now. Anything that is small enough to fit in his hand gets picked up. He walk from room to room dropping and picking and throwing. Lots of thing have been lost. Some have been found. Currently I am missing two sets of keys a remote, combs, watches, dryer balls etc. Today I went to the bathroom to get in the shower and found a pile of things in the tub, that don’t belong. Unfortunately it was none of the missing items on my list. Why couldn’t he have started doing this when he had my remote or my keys? The TV in my room doesn’t work and I need to show a house.

Baby boy 19 months

February 12, 2009 · 2 Comments

Running, running, running. His feet are running and his nose is running. When you try to fix the running (nose) he just runs faster. Lately he like the bubbles in the sink, cookies, Bo on the Go, and Super Why.

He has taken to helping me wash the dishes. As soon as the water starts running for the hand washables, you can hear the drag of a chair being pushed up to the sink. At first he plays with the bubbles. Then he dumps and fills. After that if there is nothing left to wash he empties the drain tray and begins again. So helpful that little guy is. now if i could just get him to make the beds or run a vacuum.

With the recent valentine celebrations at school, the boy has gotten more than his share of cookies. In fact for days he refused to eat anything but a cookie. It was just yesterday that he finally ate some cheese. He has gotten picky in his “old age” and I’ve turned in to more of a marshmallow. MMMMMmmmm marshmallows. I am trying to be better and give him more healthful choices. He didn’t get his cookie until he finished most of his dinner.

In the morning our routine go something like this. Mr. W’s alarm goes off. I get mad, then my alarm goes off. I roll over and pout. Mr. W gets up and turns on the light in the boys bedroom. They hopefully get ready while I lay in bed till 7:30. Then Mr. W goes to work and I’m left with lunches, back packs, clothes if their not dressed, dirty diaper and homework. I am constantly nagging urging them to be ready or we’ll be late. I kind of shoot myself in the foot as the thing that is distracting the older boys is Bo and the Go. It’s Tweedle 3’s favorite. He sings along and does the actions. It’s really cute. When we get home he watches Super Why and sings and dances. He pretty much gets what he wants if there is singing and dancing involved. At least he is working off those cookie calories.

My favorite thing that he does right now is give kisses. He leans in and gently peck you on the cheek. He doesn’t give everyone a kiss, nor does he do it all the time, but when he does I will drop anything I’m doing for a little sugar.

Baby Boy 18 months

December 19, 2008 · 2 Comments

Oh how the time flies. Life has been so busy in Wonderland and now that school is out for a break, and I have a day or two before it really gets crazy, Its time to document Tweedle 3’s happenin’ self.

Things that I am loving:

I love how you run in boots and how you do somersaults. I love how you try to sign things. Just the other day you asked me for a drink. I love your laugh. I love that you like me to read (all day). I love your love of baths, stuffies (stuffed animals) and puppies. I like how you rock out to all music, including hymns but especially rapp. I love how you clap at the end of all music. I love how the whole school knows you and you greet your people. I love hoe you know where your eyes, ears, nose, mouth, belly, toes feet, and bum are, but when you are signing the individual words of “I love you” you start with your ears. I love how you fold your arms to pray and look very serious. I love how every time I am crouching to talk to you or pick something up you quickly run to my back and put your cold little hand on my skin, then laugh your head off. I love how you hold my finger when we go for a walk. I especially love how you say “Wow” every time I turn on the lights on the christmas tree.

I think my favorite is when you are just so tired and come to me with a blanket to snuggle.

Things I’m not Loving so much:

You have become a little picky in the food department. I know its normal but its a little frustrating. I’m not loving how you are miserable because you are still teething. I also don’t like waking up 2-5 times a night. You are definitely exerting your independence, which I am o.k. with, its just the tantrums I can do without.

As you can see the good definitely outweighs the bad. I am still having so much fun.

Words you are saying: Mom, Dad, up, all done, puppy, hi, bye and ball.
Words you are almost saying: Doda, Acoco (Dakota); Eeeoooh, Eeshin (Ethan); jesh (Yes); uh uh (thank you)
Words you sign: Book, please, all done, drink, bye, thank you, more, no.

Favorite toys: Stuffed animals, cars, balls, books, my cell phone and brothers.

10, 11, 12, and 13 months

July 28, 2008 · 3 Comments

This is what happens when I move and my computer isn’t hooked up for a long time. I fall behind and on things that are very important, like documenting my babies first year. So lets see where we left off.

Dear Tweedle 3:

At 9 months you still only had too teeth and you were trying to crawl unsuccessfully. Occasionally you would say the word up and you like patty cake. Lets just say that you are sooo over that now.

Yesterday you turned 13 months and… well you bum scoot. You decided crawling wasn’t for you. you now have 7 teeth (3 of which came in 2 weeks ago, oh the trauma) You stand around furniture and have started climbing the stairs. You have fallen down the stairs twice so last saturday we got a baby gate. You scream for mom and dad and you wave bye, bye while saying bye, bye. You are attracted to plug outlets and by some miracle you have not been shocked yet. You don’t like eating anymore unless it is blueberries. bananas, apples, nectarines or apricots. Oh yah Strawberries too their your favorite. If you don’t like what you are being fed you promptly throw it on the floor. By the way you get pretty good distance. You may however be found snacking on it, the food on the floor, not even five minutes later when you have scooted back in to the kitchen. Seriously son why is floor food so much better?

There have been somethings that have come and gone since I last posted so I will state these now as i don’t want to forget them. You used to shake your head no when I said no. You used to shake (and by shake I mean nod like you were a head banger) your head yes when I said yes. When I would say awwwwww you would tilt your head to the side. Something else you used to do was fake sneeze. When ever someone else sneezed or when you wanted some attention you would say “choo” while nodding your head.

Just in case you think I forgot to document your birthday here are some pictures.

Also know that I am excited for all that you are learning and yet sad for all the changes that you are going through for you are no longer considered a baby (you’re still my baby) but a toddler.

“Doctor, Doctor I’m on a diet…

July 15, 2008 · 2 Comments

…and I’m quite irritable. Yesterday I bit someones ear off.”

“Oh Dear, that is a lot of calories.”

*Groan* Yesterday Tweedle 3 and I had our annual checkups. He is wonderful laid back and at the 25th percentile for growth. Sounds about right.

I however seem to have shrunk. I’m only 5′ 4 and 1/4 ” when I thought I was 5′4 and 3/4″. When I found out I was 5′4 and 3/4″ I had thought I was 5′5″ so this is a devastating blow to my self esteem. Maybe its because I don’t listen very well. I am also 32 lbs heavier than when I had Tweedle 3. I guess that would explain my poor body image.

I have been prescribed a food journal and at least 10 minutes a day of intense exercise during tweedle 3’s naps. She doesn’t want me to loose weight too fast as I am still nursing Tweedle 3.

My older boys are excited because they think this means they can come upstairs and play on the computer. I however think they will have to go outside and play soccer.

Gotta go Tweedle 3 is crying. Ands so it begins.

What I am doing now. Eh?

July 1, 2008 · 3 Comments

Presently, I am trying to avoid the yogurt mess that is being created downstairs in my kitchen. Tweedle 3 doesn’t seem to want my help anymore. Don’t worry there is a parent snapping pictures of his progress.

Speaking of pictures I have like two hundred I need to upload. They include pictures of my place, may long weekend camping, and Tweedle 3’s first birthday. Spending a month or so off the internet really gets one behind in their blogging duties. Sorry dudes.

Today we celebrated Canada Day by taking in the the city’s party at Prince’s Island. Besides a soccer game my eldest played in there wasn’t much the boys were interested in. I think we were not what they had in mind when they planned it. Lots of bands and information booths, just the kinds of things two energetic boys wanna do. NOT. Anyway they didn’t complain much except when we went past the place where they were giving out sun chips and sparkling dole earlier only to find out they were gone.

After the mediocre experience with calgary we decided to split and get some Ice cream. Then I came home to a nap with my littlest one while the guys played wii. Now I am awake and they are still playing the wii

Well gotta go, Tim just cleaned Tweedle 3 so I guess its safe for me to come down. I didn’t plan it that way but I think the timing is nice. :)

By the way what did you do for your country’s birthday?
